Hi Yo Silver, away!

Lone_ranger_the_french
On this day in 1933:The fictional character the Lone Ranger
was introduced on radio station WXYZ in Detroit, Michigan. In addition to Froggy the Gremlin and Superman, he was one of my heroes when I was a kid growing up in New Jersey. Who are your childhood heroes?

Anyway, we’re jumping into our silver (really!) Clio and driving down to forest-hugging Montigny-sur-Loing this afternoon. Back on Thursday.

Fast - 1

Sunday, January 29th, 2006

Dinner tonight with Odile, William, Myriam, with/at Momo’s. I anticipate a real delight since this is the first time Maurice has invited us over to dine.

It’s good timing since tomorrow I plan to start a fast for some days - detox and head-clearing (too). I’d appreciate your comments, ideas, support.

Vote again…

Saturday, January 28th, 2006

Alison dropped over for tea this afternoon and Philippe (Dr. Spaulding’s alter ego) stopped by to check his e-mail, but otherwise it’s been a very quiet day.

SO, I was wondering if you’d all help me out by voting again (or for the first time - since the previous wine questions didn’t get loads of replies!) … anyway it is FREEZING cold outside (the coldest I’ve felt in almost a dozen years here) and I as thinking of hiking up (literally) to Denis’s place in Montmartre (he doing a little get-together). BUT I’m feeling unmotivated …and indecisive - thus I leave it up to you, Gentle Reader(s), to vote. Should I go or not? Vote quick!

Snake_penis_capsules
UPDATE: As Roseanne Rosanna-Dana would have said, "Never mind!" … stop the voting as I’ve decided to snap out of my lethargy and to go up to Montmartre tonight for dinner with Denis & Co. (besides he needs a hand with his new laptop) … I think these new pills (see pic) I just took are really helping!(Don’t ask me how they get the snake to hold still … I have no idea)

YOU pick the wine!

Youpickwine
For tonight’s dinner I want to try an experiment in collaborative decision-making. You pick the wine from the three bottles shown here. It’s as simple as A-B-C. Either add your comment or send me an e-mail (jose.pietri@yahoo.com). I’ll check around 8pm my time. Merci!

UPDATE 1: It occurs to me that I should at least hint at what’s for dinner: Warka leaves (commonly called "briks")  stuffed with gambas, fennel and tomatoes as the opener; for the main dish: lotte (devilfish) steamed with kafir lime and basil with rice and broccoli on the side. Salad and cheese, naturally - but dessert is still up in the air.

UPDATE 2: Well, since Philippe, Benjamin and Isabelle each kindly brought a bottle we ended up not drinking any of the above wines - instead we drank the wines you see in this second picture - in order of consumption, left to right.

The saddest day of the year

Monday, January 23rd, 2006

At least that’s what a psychologist at Cardiff University has worked out - January 23 is the worst day of 2006!

Actually, I think it’s a fine day (and not only because it’s my birthday today)… for me, at least - my health is good, I feel good and life and love continue ever onwards. Plus I have all you friends and family - near and far.

We’re off tonight (Odile’s treating me) with Alain and Anne to an event in favor of children with noma at the Palais des Glaces. It may be too late for you to come … but as always, take care of yourself and help somebody today.

Bilingual_brain
Our dear friend, Vesna, has "bilingualized" her website (offering "photographic images of strong artistic integrity; moods, feelings, places and faces) - I get a real lift everytime I go there.

You can visit it at: http://fewisfine.com/home.php - go take a look (and give your bilingual brain a workout, too)!

Lost in Africa?

Monday, January 9th, 2006

Lost_in_africa
We were expecting to put up our Italian friend from Milano, Libero, but his plane back from Africa, by way of Paris, must be late, very late.

In any case, we’ve ended up with dinner for 6 (the dirty half-dozen): besides me there are - Odile, Fanchette, Florence, Anne and Denis. It’s already past midnight as I write this and the discussions rage on (politics, relative wealth/poverty, etc.) - I hope to find a website where I can store MPEG "films" since tonight I captured some moments … and you can get a "live" view of our evenings! (Any ideas of sites that provide this service "free", please let me know.)

Sore boning …

Sunday, January 8th, 2006

Stopped by Mexi & Co. for a quesadilla & some wine with Odile & Fanchette after shopping for Oriental foodstuff (OK, who knows how to cook Tank Goby?) at Thanh Binh Jeune over near Saint Michel. Hooked up  Sylvie and visited her new apartment nearby on rue Domat (the building dates from the XVIth century - her place has an awesome cellar).

Anne_end
Our Louvre-guard neighbor Anne came over for dinner, Denis also showed up (after bugging out of an apéro/meet-a-gal thingie). Afterwards we knocked ourselves out playing dominos until 4 in the morning.
